Alison has been teaching the art of Belly Dancing since 2002 (having had formal training in ballet and modern dance).
After attending workshops in Gauteng and Cape Town she opened her first studio in Hillcrest, Kwa-Zulu Natal. She has subsequently enjoyed workshops with international belly dance teachers, including Ansuya, Danisa, Yasmina, Hadia, Kami Liddle, Michelle Joyce, Heather Aued, Lucia, Thelma Rose, Jillina and more recently the amazing Shahzrad! She has been exposed to different styles of belly dancing, that being American Cabaret, Egyptian Pop, Tribal and Classical Egyptian belly dancing. To further enhance her dance skills she has gone onto learn the basics of Bollywood, Bhangra, Spanish, Hula and Latin American dancing, all of which she has successfully fused with the intrigues of belly dancing – thus living up to the name of BellyFusion!
Classes are held in Hillcrest, Kloof and Berea and Alison teaches from Beginner through to Professional Level. Students not only learn the art of Belly dancing but are exposed to a fusion of dance styles and will also learn to master props such as zills, wings, fan veils, sword, candle trays and fire sticks.
Tribal classes are also taught under the expert guidance of Sam Eades who has attended many dance workshops by local and international dance teachers – www.tribalbellyfusion.co.za
Alison’s annual Studio Show is the highlight of the Belly Dance calendar and she has chosen to “pay it forward” by making a difference to some very worthy causes. Funds raised from their Shows have benefited organisations such as Childline, Ekaya Labomi Aids Hospice, Bobbi Bears, The Open Door Crises Centre, Faiths Paradise, various Rhino protection organisations, Upper Highway Air and the Kevin Richardson Foundation.
